John 5
What comes to my mind as I read John 5 is the misery sin has brought into the world. We read about a man who had been sick for no less than thirty- eight years! God didn't create man to be full of aches and pains. There would have been no sickness, if there had been no sin. Jesus is truly amazing in his love towards man. When Jesus returns there will be no more suffering, sorrow, or sin. What a truely wonderful thing that is.

I'm jumping into this blog late, but I figured I'd comment right away! v. 19-47 strikes me as amazing. The jews are not only mad at Jesus for healing on the sabbath but now Jesus is calling God his own father and in their eyes this make Jesus equal to God!
ReplyDeleteI think if someone were to read these versus out of context or were to read them in context with a subject of today, Jesus' words would seem very confident and boastful. But that truly is not the point that he is trying to make.
The Jews prided themselves on being the true followers of their ancestor Moses and they were trying to follow every one of his laws to the "T" but yet they didn't believe that Jesus was the true son of man (even when Moses wrote about Jesus). And Jesus started these versus by saying "He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him." (v. 23b)
These versus seem to give me great strength in being confident in my beliefs no matter the circumstance. Jesus never falters in standing by his purpose especially when the situation leads to his death.
